GDPR - Adding Google Analytics GA4
Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
GA4 is the current standard if you created a property after October 2020.
Steps:
- Go to Google Analytics and log in.
- Select the property you want to track.
- Click Admin (gear icon) in the bottom-left corner.
- Under the Property column, click Data Streams.
- Click the web stream you want to track (your website).
- On the web stream details page
- View Tag Instructions
- Click on the Install Manually Tab

Tracking Section – New Tab
Add a new tab in the Tracking section
Tab name (recommended):
- Google tag (gtag.js) (Matches the official commented code: )
Alternative tab names (also acceptable):
- Google Tag
- Google Analytics
- Google Measurement Tag
- Google Tag Manager (only if GTM container is used)
Tab Purpose
This tab is used to store and manage the Google tag (gtag.js) tracking code, including:
- Google Analytics (GA4)
- Google Ads conversion tracking
- Google remarketing tags
- Other Google measurement services that rely on gtag.js
Section Placement Guidance
- Tracking Use this if the tag is primarily for analytics and measurement (GA4, event tracking, conversions).
- Marketing Place it under Marketing if Google Tag Manager or gtag.js is being used for re-marketing, ads, or audience tracking (e.g. Google Ads, remarketing pixels).
